Prof. Lonnie Isabel Interviews American Tourist Caught in Mumbai Attacks

Prof. Lonnie Isabel, director of the CUNY J-School’s International Reporting Program, hosted a radio interview about the November 26th terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.

He spoke to Dara Huang who was staying at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel when the shooting began. She was trapped for eight hours in one of the hotel’s restaurants before being evacuated.

Aseem Chhabra, a columnist with the Mumbai Mirror, joined Isabel and Huang to reflect on the events and their impact on the city.

The podcast was recorded in the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s radio studio.

Prof. Glenn Lewis Creates New B.A, in Journalism for York College

Assoc. Prof. Glenn Lewis has been appointed director of the new Bachelor of Arts in Journalism Degree officially launched by the York College English Department this semester.

Prof. Sarah Bartlett Takes Part in Panel on U.S. Financial Crisis

“Saving Wall Street” was the topic of a recent panel discussion featuring Prof. Sarah Bartlett, director of the business and economics reporting program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. The panel, which also included economists from J.P. Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank as well as two money managers, was sponsored Sept. 23 by the China Institute in New York and Continental Airlines.

Prof. Sandeep Junnarkar Featured in “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education”

The premier magazine for news on diversity in higher education has profiled Associate Professor Sandeep Junnarkar, an interactive media instructor at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. The article looks at Junnarkar’s role in preparing students for the shift to electronic media as well as his efforts to attract a diverse student population to the CUNY J-School.

Prof. Linda Prout Produces New CUNY TV Series on Ethnic and Immigrant Media

The director of the broadcast program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism has created a new series on ethnic and immigrant media to be cablecast Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on CUNY TV, Channel 75. Professor Linda Prout serves as senior producer of the program, Independent Sources, which is also available on the station’s web site, www.cuny.tv/series/sources.

Prof. Trudy Lieberman Hosts Webcasts for Health Journalists

A new series of health-related Webcasts for journalists debuts Wednesday, July 9 at noon with a spotlight on the growing problem of the underinsured – those who have insurance but are still at risk for substantial out-of-pocket expenses. “Talking Health” will be presented by the Association of Health Care Journalists, The Commonwealth Fund, and the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism.

Profs Help Bloggers Navigate the Law

From Maine to California, bloggers and other online contributors are being hauled into court as lawsuits relating to online publishing mount. News organizations have lawyers to train and protect their staff journalists. They are prepared to anticipate and guard against legal risk related to a host of possible claims, including libel, newsgathering transgressions, privacy violations, and copyright and trademark infringement.

City Editor of New York Daily News to Lead CUNY Journalism School’s Community News Service

Jere Hester, the City Editor of the New York Daily News, has been named to head the NYC Community News Service of the City University’s new Graduate School of Journalism, it was announced by Stephen B. Shepard, Dean of the School.
